Reasons to support a planning process for Waverly:
Waverly has long had its own identifiable cultural, social, economic, agricultural, and geologic characteristics that provide it a sense of unity. It has had its own school and churches, and now has its own interlocking agricultural activities, and other commercial endeavors that contribute to its vitality and uniqueness.
The core of Waverly has been platted since the turn of the century and was incorporated at one time. To a large degree, the people of Waverly are actively involved with the land on which they live, and are invested in keeping the agrarian or semi-agrarian character of their community intact.
It makes sense to examine a planning process that would help retain the cultural, social, agricultural, economic and historic aspects that tie Waverly to its ranching and farming roots. This process could also help protect its rural character and wildlife habitat.
Broader issues that will affect Waverly’s future can also be evaluated, such as open space, growth areas of neighboring towns, and transportation routes.
